Things To Look At

This is a post more so for me so that I have the list of comedians Alan gave me in a place where I know I wont loose them.

  • Charlie Chaplin
  • Buster Keaton
  • Harold Lloyd
  • Mr Bean
  • Slapstick comedy

Further Information on My Words

Although I know what a call center is, it is not something I have had to take much note in. To help me understand more what an actual call centre is, I looked up an explanation.

Call Center
A call centre or call center is a centralised office used for the purpose of receiving and transmitting a large volume of requests by telephone.

Juggler
Juggling is a skill involving moving objects for entertainment or sport.

Mousetrap

A mousetrap is a specialized type of animal trap designed primarily to catch mice; however, it may also trap other small animals.

Unit 4: Story Telling

This project sounds interesting. I can't wait to start learning new programs.

My words for this project are:

Juggler
Call Centre
Mousetrap

Crit

So we had crit last Friday. I personally thought it wasn't that bad. Although my image lacked quite a lot of qualities, such as suitable lighting etc, I was still happy with presenting it. I was also really pleased when Phil said he loved the camera angle. I was surprised when he said it was from the angle of a dead person which made the shed even more sinister feel about it. I was surprised because I hadn't thought of it in that way.

Final Image

My final image. Finally got the glow effect around the open door that I was after. Just one question. Have I got the right image size for our final piece. I did look at the brief and I put in what it said, but I just want to make sure.

Final Render of Shed

My final render from off of Maya. Emily showed me how to use the paint brushes in Maya. After experimenting a little, I found I preferred the grass which was painted on rather than a fur texture. Now all I have to do is add a few finishing touches on in Photoshop.

A Different Angle

In an attempt to sort out the plane where the grass is in my scene, I came up with this. After showing this to Alison, she recommended I used it. Tom and Matt also agreed with her. Now all I need to do is edit the grass to make it more believing then onto Photoshop.

Shed Textured

Finally finished putting on the base textures on my shed. I plan on using Photshop to pain dirt and grit onto the windows. I'm not sure what texture I should use for the shed roof though. I was thinking of using a scatter brush in Photoshop to create a grainy appearance. Also it wasn't until I'd actually textured my grass plane did I realize that it would not work (duh Lev).

Ground Texture

Texturing the ground was rather frustrating. At first I wasn't 100% sure how I wanted the gravel and stepping stones to look. This was because the textures I used weren't to the right scale. I tried to tile one of them, but no matter what I tried, it just didn't seem to want to work. Alison then suggested that I leave it and try something else. After a few tries, I found a texture in the end which I thought worked well for the ground as well as the paving.

1st Side Textured

Textured one side of my shed using the texture I made. Alison pointed out the fact that in some places the texture is repetitive. My aim at the moment is to texture everything first and then go back and tweak things to work better.

Shed- Modeling Complete

Finished modeling my shed. Now onto texturing.

Wood Texture Attempt

My first attempt at using what Phil taught us in our Photoshop lesson to create my first texture. I used a section of the wood from my own garden shed to create it. I don't think it's very good and I'm still not 100% sure if I've done it right but it seems to tile ok. I would have used the wood texture Alan gave us to use with texturing the chest and barrel in the Pirates Cove scene, but it reminded me too much of driftwood rather than wood used for a garden shed.

Shed- Near completion

The shed scene is almost complete. I hope to start texturing it tomorrow.

Camera Rig

Finally got the camera rig done. Or at least the first part. Got stuck on the last section of the tutorial, but when I asked Alan for help, it turned out I'd already done what was needed correctly without realizing.

Shed Progress

Just an update post on my shed model. I've now got the roof, ground and doors to add on.

Essay Research

'Jentsch believes that a particularly favourable condition for awakening uncanny feelings is created when there is intellectual uncertainty whether an object is alive or not, and when an inanimate object becomes too much like an animate one.'

http://people.emich.edu/acoykenda/uncanny1.htm

I found this whilst researching the Uncanny and thought it might be useful. It's another view on the Uncanny by another psychologist other than Freud.

A Little Bit Confussed

Once again, another question. I've got the planner mapping done and I'm just about to mirror the geometry. How to I re arrange the UV's? Because two of the shed side isn't going to fit in the same area. Shall I shrink them to fit them on?

Santa's Hat

Another simple tutorial. I thought it'd be more complicated than it was.

Fur Tutorials 1-6

Finally got these done. Rather enjoyed doing them. I thought it'd be a lot more complicated that what I had to do to create the fur.

Moving Shed Image

This isn't another progress shot. This is one to show what I've got so. How do you stop the images from moving around? I go to change view points only to find that the image of the shed from the front view has moved and turned to join the image of the shed from the side.

Shed Base

Just a quick update. The base has been made. Next onto the side of the shed.

Shed- In Maya

I've started to create my shed in Maya. I hope I've got these positioned right. I've been referring back to the beginning tutorials of the street to refresh my memory of what I did. I feel like I'm working backwards though because they're positioned differently to the images used for the house.

Maya House 20-30

Not a lot to say about this, other than I think I may need to work on UVs a little bit more.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs

Thought I'd post this one up. It's the hierarchy of human needs. I'll be adding it into my essay to talk about how the woman lying with a robot is uncanny.

More information found there.

Uncanny Shed Sketch

Done in Photoshop. Just an simple outline at the moment with blocked in grey scale to show where everything it and isn't. Just a question. Should I roughly detail it in colour it to make things clearer or should I detail it using black, white and grey?

Uncanny Garden Shed

As my final piece involves making a garden shed feel unhomely, I took a few photos of the one in the garden. Unfortunately, it's not the shed from my nightmares when I was younger because although it would have been ideal it no longer exists. I also tried in some of the shots to bend down in an attempt to get the perspective of a child. Phil mentioned about trying to get a view of a child looking at the shed to make it even creepier
